Welcome to the OpenLVEM web

4 April 2024: The LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration (LVK) is migrating all of the content of this wiki and future communications related to multi-messenger astrophysics to the OpenMMA Forum hosted by SCiMMA (https://scimma.org/). All subscribers to the OpenLVEM mailing list have been migrated to openmma@lists.illinois.edu which will soon be given a scimma.org email address. All future communications from the LVK will go through the OpenMMA Forum and mailing list.

This is the community forum on multi-messenger observations connected to Gravitational Wave (GW) transient event detections. This forum has no requirements for participation -- anyone interested can join. This open forum started in January 2018. The LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration will use this forum to communicate and interact with the community.

Sign up to the OpenLVEM Forum at gw-astronomy.org: approval and subscription to the openlvem@gw-astronomy.org mailing list is automatic if you provide and confirm a valid e-mail address (for help on this topic, email gwastro-help@cgca.uwm.edu). Information about observing runs, how to receive alerts, and open science with LIGO-Virgo data will be communicated via OpenLVEM mailing list.

The OpenLVEM forum will also organize occasional teleconferences and in-person meetings to foster communication with physicists and astronomers interested in multi-messenger observations connected to gravitational waves. If you would like to make a presentation, please submit a request to make an OpenLVKEM presentation.

  • Joint LVK statement on future observing runs.
• Public Alert User Guide
  • Explains how to receive public alerts, documents the contents of those alerts, and explains how to interpret them.
  • Version 18 and later includes update information about O4 alert formats and distribution methods. Some parts of the presentation is being improved; new versions will be released if there are significant changes.
  • Questions specifically related to public alerts should be directed to the help-desk at contact+emfollow/userguide@support.ligo.org.

  • Real-time observatory status and detector performance summaries by date.
